The Rev. William Hutchison Selected Neighborhood Hero
ST. LOUIS (Nov. 17, 2008) - The Rev. William Hutchison will be given a Local Hero award by Bank of America for his work in underserved communities, including as a board member for Justine Petersen, a nonprofit organization that helps build assets for low- and moderate-income individuals.Hutchison will be honored in an award ceremony set for Nov. 17 at the St. Patrick Center in St. Louis. Bank of America annually selects five local heroes who champion causes vital to their communities, inspire others to get involved, and have special and significant impact on individuals, families, or communities."We commend Bank of America for selecting Father Hutchison as an individual who is dedicated to alleviating poverty in the St. Louis community. His work has a tremendous impact in helping the underserved build assets and lasting positive change for generations to come," said Robert Boyle, chief executive officer of Justine Petersen.Hutchison has been a member of the board of directors of Justine Petersen since 2003. He was a member of the faculty of the St. Louis University School of Social Work from 1972 to 2003 and served as dean between 1985 and 1995. Among his many accomplishments, Hutchison founded the Doerr Center for Social Justice Education and Research in 1994 and continues to sit in its executive and education committees. He also served on the St. Louis Archiodiocese Catholic Charities board of directors as well as the state and St. Louis chapter boards of the Missouri Association for Social Welfare. One of the most lasting accomplishments was his founding of the Northside Community Center in 1973. He has seen the agency grow into one that serves residents of all ages, and most recently has worked to provide new and rehabbed housing to community residents. Justine Petersen is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that assits low- and moderate-income individuals to build assets through homeownership preparation and retention, credit building and financial education, small-business technical assistance and lending and matched savings program. The organization was founded in honor of the late Justine Petersen in 1997 and has expanded to serve individuals and families across the St. Louis metropolitan area. For more information, click here.
